I think I’ve found Polly’s equivalent to Sammy Steel: Lovely Kitty, Polly’s derpy tomboy cousin. Both toy lines can claim Imperial as the unisex parent who begat them.
There are four playsets in total: outdoor club, summer resort, winter cabin, and pet show. The cutesy Camp Crystal Lake is the best of the lot in my opinion, even though it doesn’t come with a mini-Jason. The boat accessories are pretty cute and the compact has a nice “summer games” motif to make up for the overall shoddy quality. Kitty herself is a league of bootleg derp all her own.
I currently have a carded pet show playset, and a loose “club paradise” playset, which is great since the latter is my favorite of the bunch.
As crappy as the toy looks, I was surprised to find that it’s not too badly made. The pieces feel sturdy and are nicely painted, and the decals are pretty swell too. If you’re a mini-playset collector and you can find a complete one on ebay or etsy, snatch it up. If nothing else it gives some normal locales where Mighty Max can get into further trouble. Mine is missing one of the piers, but that just makes more room for the boats anyway, so I can’t complain. The tennis court coming out of the background is a really nice touch.
Curiously, there are several alternate incarnations of Lovely Kitty: Petite Princess, Pretty Pixies, and Betty’s Club, with variations in the paint job and quality of the protagonist doll. Betty’s Club seems to have a very different variant of the Club Paradise playset, with a different shape and layout. I’ll post photos of the variants as I collect them.
